Rhondda or the Rhondda Valley (Welsh: Cwm Rhondda), is a former coal mining area in South Wales, previously in Glamorgan, now it’s own district – Rhondda Cynon Taf, of 16 communities around the River Rhondda.

The Rhondda is made up of two valleys – the Rhondda Fawr and the Rhondda Fach – and includes the towns of Treorchy, Treherbert, Tylorstown, Penygraig, Maerdy, Tonypandy, Ferndale, and Porth. The Rhondda has a rich coal mining history

Many sources state the meaning of Rhondda as “noisy”, though this is a simplified translation without research.

Rhondda Cynon Taf shares borders with Caerphilly and Merthyr Tydfil to the east and Vale of Glamorgan and the city of Cardiff to the south. To the west are Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend, while to the north are the Powys.

Zip World Tower is also now in South Wales, at the old Tower Colliery site in the coal mining town of Hirwaun. It’s a heck of a way to see one of the best views in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT). The zip line goes over the Llyn reservoir and down onto the site of what was Tower Colliery. You sit down while riding and will go up to 70mph. There will be a rollercoaster there too, soon.
