Wolfscastle (Welsh: Casblaidd), also spelt Wolf’s Castle, Treffgarne is well known to travellers from Haverfordwest to Fishguard.

Wolf Castle rocks / Treffgarne Rocks can be seen from the A40 and are the most striking feature of the area.

Apart from the gorge itself, the hilltops are littered with outcrops of rock, estimated as being over 1000 million years old. Great Treffgarne Rock is a famous landmark, These mysterious rocks have local names such as ‘The Lion and The Unicorn’, ‘The Teddy Bear’ and ‘The Wolf’ – whatever they best represent, they definitely look majestic against the background sky.

These rocks are well worth a trip, Treffgarne Rock is one of the best bouldering areas in Wales with some excellent mid-grade problems. There are 2 main crags: Maiden Castle and Poll Carn.

The gorge and rocks at Wolfcastle have been a place of bandits and mystery. We particularly love the story of a tunnel leading from a cave at Weircastle Rocks running all the way to St. Davids. The story goes that a local farmer one day lost a very valuable sheepdog. Some days later a woman in St. Davids was sweeping her hearth when she heard some scratching noise underneath. She called her husband who helped her to lift the hearthstone and found the missing sheepdog alive and well.
