Pwllgwaelod Beach in Pembrokeshire is a bit of a hidden gem, a tiny drive from Dinas village, Pwllgwaelod Beach is a small cove made of a mixture of sand and shingle.

Pwllgwaelod bay has become a popular spot to launch kayaks and stand up paddleboards (SUP’s) – on a calm day there is some perfect little nooks and crannies to explore along this stretch, you can paddle out to some small coves that are only accessible from the sea. Seals are a common site in Pwllgwaelod, and you never know you might be lucky and see a dolphin.

Pwllgwaelod is also a popular spot with walkers, as it’s got a public toilet, a pub (The Old Sailor’s) and is right bang on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path for easy access to Dinas Head / “Dinas Island”.

The walk Pwllgwaelod to Cwm-yr-Eglwys (either to or from) is simply stunning. A lovely loop of about 3 miles. Pen-y-Fan (the highest point of Dinas Island) will give you a 360-degree view from the Ordnance Survey Trig point to Newport and Fishguard as well as north to the cliffs at Pen-yr-Afr and inland to the Preselis.

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path, often called the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, is one of the most beautifully breathtaking coastlines in Britain and this part of it is simply stunning (Needle Rock along this loop is well worth a visit).
