Porth Wen Anglesey Travel Poster

Porth Wen is an interesting little bay just west of the popular Bull Bay.  Porth Wen Brickworks is a now a disused Victorian brickworks it produced fire bricks used to line steel-making furnaces.

Porth Wen, Cemaes Bay, Anglesey, North Wales is definitely off the beaten track, with steep precarious steps down to a small secluded beach. The substantial remains include a number of buildings and the remains of some of the machinery, but all have some damage from sea erosion.

Porth Wen brickworks

Porth Wen brickworks is a is a scheduled monument and Private Property and access is not permitted. Excellent views of the site can be seen from the Anglesey Coastal Path between Cemaes and Amlwch. The main building looks in danger in imminent collapse.

Porth Wen Brickworks was opened at the turn of the last century to make refractory bricks for use in the steel industry. The bricks were exported by sea from the Brickwork’s own harbour. The last bricks were made closed at the start of the first world war and most of it has slowly rusted away ever since.
