Dylan Thomas’ Boathouse Laugharne, Carmarthenshire.

Pretty Laugharne (pronounced ‘larn’) lying on the estuary of the River Tâf was the home of great Welsh poet and writer Dylan Thomas from 1949 until his death in 1953, and is thought to have been the inspiration for the fictional town of Llareggub in Under Milk Wood.
The Laugharne Boathouse was Dylan’s golden period. this wooden structure is renowned around the world for its literary and romantic association with the great poet.

Dylan moved into the Boathouse thanks to a very kind benefactor who loved Dylan’s writing. Margaret Taylor let Dylan and Caitlin live in Laugharne Boathouse, rent-free.

Dylan wrote this letter to Margaret to thank her soon after: “for this place I love and where I want to work… this is it: the place, the house, the workroom, the time. All I shall write in this water and tree room on the cliff, every word will be my thanks to you. You have given me a life. And now I am going to live it.”

The poet’s former home is now a museum dedicated to his life and work, the setting is as beautiful as Dylan’s description of the view.

This poster of the views of Dylan Thomas’ Boathouse is a perfect gift for anyone who loves Laugharne, Carmarthenshire and the beautiful Welsh countryside.
